Initiation Class, Melbourne, 16 Jan 10 So many things remain inflamed as our desires, because all of us have come to enjoy in the material world. Otherwise there was no other reason, and that too, without Krishna (Bhagavad-gita 7.27). So this inflammation of the insatiable desires create a stumbling block that even though the body is maintained nicely, one is peaceful otherwise also, but these desires make him completely mesmerized under the term sense gratification, and he is simply miserable entity (Bhagavad-gita 3.39). It creates miseries around it... It is a struggle. But sense gratification and anarthas, they add into the struggle. It's not escapism, or escaping method to avoid the struggle, but actually they add (Bhagavad-gita 3.40). It's like what they call, "Icing on the cake". It's a sweet icing on a cake of miseries.
